Do weights make you lose fat or gain muscle?

butterfly Asked by lonely_world about 1 year ago, 6 answers.

I am just curious, because my mum does some of the weight lifter machine things to loose weight/ fat. I am confused because weight lifting makes you get more muscle which weighs more than fat. But people do it too loose weight. soo... can you explain...

how it works ???

well... doing weights burns calories, but builds muscle. so you can lose weight, or gain weight. if you stick to low weights and high reps, you'll most likely lose weight, but if you work on adding more weight, then you'll inevitably gain weight because muscle is heavier than fat, but more compact so you won't look as big

both really. you do burn the fat and you build muscle. it's not a great way to 'loose weight' only becuase muscle weighs more than fat, but the whole point is to get fitter and toned, isn't it? so it has to be better, doesn't it?

You are so right, Sooitca, it does indeed do both.

However the fat will be removed faster than the muscle can be built up so together with a sensible diet you should see the scales dip !

ahem...doing the weights burns calories...it also gains muscle...which in turn burns calories...so...simple answer...is to get your but off your comp and get bench pressin...or go the sissy way and do cardio (which is aloada bull tbh.

ok, hate to say this but dont listen to sooitca. like the first person said, low weight with any workout and high repatitions tones muscles and burns the fat making you leaner and SMALLER. plus you can do cardio to improve your heart and burn tons of calories. hope this helps
