Now I dont know what religious beliefs each group ascribes to, politics is not my area of expertise. However, it is more complicated than sunni=good, shiite=bad... When your s/he said the shia attacked, s/he meant Al Qaeda (and Bin Laden), who brought down the towers were shia... however, dont be mistaken, the sunni groups do their own damage too...

And again, most of the middle east, pakistan, parts of north africa, not thrilled with the U.S... Sunni and Shiite alike...

Your teacher is mistaken, and is speaking in broad generalizations. For one thing, Osama bin-Laden, the 9/11 hijackers, and al-Qaeda, are Sunni Muslims. Second, Muslim opinions about the US are not based on being Shi'ite or Sunni. The majority of both are opposed to a number of US foreign policies in the Muslim world.

Muslim anger at the United States right now is based on historic US support for Israel, continued US military presence in the Middle East, and a perception that the US is actively seeking to divide and control the Muslim world.

You should know that despite their anger at US foreign policy, the vast majority of Muslims have mixed feelings about al-Qaeda. The vast majority of Muslims strongly disapprove of al-Qaeda's attacks on civilians, American or otherwise. However, many Muslims do not have a problem with al-Qaeda's principle goals (tossing out US military in the Mideast fighting US support for Israel).

Al-Qaeda's other goal is the removal of secular, moderate pro Western governments in the Muslim world, replacing them with a united fundamentalist Islamic regime. I don't think al-Qaeda will ever succeed in this goal. Many Muslims do favor following Islamic law in their countries, but most of them also favor a democratic political system that protects the rights of religious minorities. Most Muslims also believe increased trade and connection to the non-Muslim world is a very good thing.

Exactly where are you talking about? In Iraq? And in general, most muslims in the middle east arent thrilled about the fact that the U.S. is acting as world police... although most of the world isnt too thrilled about it either... and from what I know Hamas is sunni...

No they are not. The majority of muslims in the US are sunni and there are also shi'ites living in the US. Its part of the muslim religion to respect all cultures even if they may differ from islam.
The minority of muslims that hate the Us tend to be extremists, and remember, some extremists are just a type of cult that just twist words from the religion and use them to their advantage.
