I think you need a different counselor if you are feeling as though your issues are being minimized. Medication is something I have mixed emotions about. It depends on your age and also the extent of your isses. Were they brought on by one specific inscident or are you depressed and have no idea why? Depression is a vague word for a broad problem. I take Celexa 40 mg a day. I haven't noticed much of a difference accept my moods are more even keeled. I don't feel the anger I usually do as a result of being a chronic pain sufferer. I also have depression issues from past experiences and the fact that I deal with so much pain being only 29 years old. So, do I think I would be worse without it? yeah, probably. I definately think it is worth a try... what does your gut instinct tell you?
Yes, it is possible that you need medication. Talk with your counselor or, if you need to, see a different doctor. You may need to go through several different kind of meds until you find the right one for you. Whatever you do, don't give up. You aren't alone. There are many of us who suffer with this too and we know how you feel. Take things one day at a time. Good luck!
I'm going through literally the exact same thing you are and I'm supposed to go on medication for it soon and in my opinion, I think it would be beneficial to you. Anti depressants can help your mind slow down and look at life in a more positive way. My psychologist told me that depression is usually caused because of an imbalance of chemicals in your brain and anti depressants can help to fix that imbalance.
Although medication can help, it's totally understandable if you don't want to take it. Taking something that is supposed to change who you are can be very scary. But if you're okay with taking it then I think you totally should because I and all of your family and friends that love you wouldn't want you to harm yourself, especially not in a way that is permanent.

Do i need medication for my depression?
I'm depressed and am seeing a counsellor-psychologist but I've come to the point where I want to kill myself but dont have the guts to do so. I wish an accident would happen to me. That's how I feel. My problems that I talk about with the counsellor are...
not that bad or serious there are people with much worse problems. But why do I feel this way? Is it possible that I need medication for my depression? I used take medication for this when I was living in another country and was seen by a different doctor.
