What to get my friend for christmas that will make him smile?

Hey,
My friend is leaving for vacation in 6 days, so he will celebrate Christmas AND his birthday over in China. He goes every year so he never celebrated christmas in Canada. I've only met him this year and I was wondering what I could get him, I want to get him something meaningful (his heart has been broken severely by a girl) so I want a present that could maybe put a smile on his face too!
I was thinking of... a few packets of hot chocolate and 2 cards (Birthday and Christmas) the hot chocolate is for when he gets there. When he drinks it, he could think about the warmth of his friends and the sweetness of that girl he liked so much. But I want to get him something more than that. What should I get him that has meaning to it?
