Chemistry question help

taken with my cell, thats why its so dark Asked by jessbear19 about 1 year ago, 2 answers.

I have a chemistry test tomorrow, and I found this question tthat I cant solve. anyone help me?
this is the question:
they told us we have an original volume of 25L. the temperature doubles in (C and the pressure triples. The number of moles is...

constant. What is the factor of the volume? meaning by how many times does the volume decrease or increase? (im pretty sure it will decrease)

to do this you have to make up numbers, my problem was when after finishing, I plugged in different numbers to check my answer because any numbers should work and I got a different answer.

Can anyone help me solve this problem?

pv = nRT

Volume is proportional to temperature, but inversely proportional to pressure. Since the moles remain the same, that isn't a factor.

So, if temperature doubles, volume doubles. But since the pressure triples, the doubled volume is reduced by a factor of 3.

25L * 2 / 3 = 16.7 L
