Sounds like cold sores to me. You can buy medicated chapstick like blistex that works better if you put it on as soon as you feel the tingling that comes before the swelling. Obviously keeping healthy helps keep them away since when your immune system is down they tend to re-appear. Avoid exposing your lips to sun, wind and extreme temperatures as well as avoid sharing cigarettes or kisses with people that have a cold sores. If it makes you feel any better, I used to get cold sores a lot but some how they just dissapeared and haven't had any for years now!!! good luck
I get cold sores and when I take anti-biotics I tend to have an outbreak more. It also happens anytime the immune system is weakened by stress, illnesses, weather, fatigue, etc. You might notice a tingling a day or two before the blisters pop up. That is called the prodomal period and if it is cold sores, you are contagious before they pop up. There is a medicine that is a cream that will help keep them from becoming full blown blisters. I can't remember the name but I think it is something like zovarix or something like that. The over the counter cream doesn't help as much as the prescription cream does. You'll have to ask your doc. If they won't prescribe it, then I guess you can try to OTC cream called abreva. It works okay.
I TEND TO HAVE BLISTER IN MY LOWER LIP EVERY 3-4 DAYS WITHOUT STOP
kiissmeimcontagious, I suggest you investigate a little futher. Cold sores are caused by the Herpes Simplex I virus.
At the first tingle of a cold sore apply ice directly to the affected area at 20-30 minute intervals if possible. Otherwise as often as you are able to.Ice will help with the swelling and hopefully keep the cold sore at bay Inbetween icing the area soak a cotton ball in milk and apply to area for about 5 minutes at a time. Milk has a lot of vitamins that are good for your skin and will assist in controlling the severity of your cold sore. If after all this you still get a cold sore continue the process whilst including one more step and that is to dab the area with toothpaste. Let the toothpaste dry and remove with cotton ball and milk process followed by ice. It works like a charm and I rarely develop a cold sore when I follow these steps. If I do it generally last 2-3 days with no scabbing or ugly red marks. Hope this help
Best advice I can think of...
Sounds like you are 80% of the world and have oral herpes...
If you want to reduce outbreaks, try to avoid stress. STRESS/sunburn/sudden change in weather(extreme cold) are 3 things that cause outbreaks the most.
Go to your local drug store and get a small package of 1% hydrocortisone cream... it's typically used for treating skin disorders like eczema. When you feel a blister about to pop, or right as it has become noticeable... apply the hydrocortisone cream (it's a clear shiny substance so it's not very visible). This speeds up your skin's immune system resulting in a quicker dispersal of the blister.
I have a question. I've never had a cold sore in my entire life (I'm 24) and once I found out my husband was deploying the stress started piling on. I started developing a bump on my lip. Not at the edge of my lip but directly on my lip. I noticed it in the evening and kept watching it. The next morning it was a full blown blister. Not red or gross or anything, but like a blister you get when you burn your finger on a curling iron or something. Just barely touching it caused it to break and the clear liquid was drained. I just noticed tonight that I'm getting another one. The last time this happened was in October. Help??
