Betta fish in a 5 gallon tank. w/ neon tetras?

I just moved Hercules (my male Betta) from a 1 gallon tank into a 5 gallon tank. He seems to like it and loves playing underneath the water fall from the filter. I was wondering if I could possibly add a few neon tetras to the tank with him. I have a picture of the tank (It looks small in the picture but its actually pretty big, my fish looks so tiny in it lol)

If there is any other ideas on what I can put in there please let me know. Obviously I can’t put too much in there since its not a huge tank. thanks.

thanks I’ll definately look at the corydora’s

im still deciding on whether or not to put any fish with him. he is a very active fish. and at night when his light is on and its dark in the room he shows off his agressive side when he sees his reflection. so… with that said hes pretty agressive but I noticed since I put him in the bigger tank he’s relaxed a bit more and not so agressive but still very active.

so I’ll let him get used to his new tank before I put anymore fish in there with him. I’ll keep you posted. thanks

I would not recomend it, bettas are very agressive especialy to each other.Neon tetras are very small vulnrable & to a betta eatable.

NO DON’T DO IT!! I once put neon tetras in a 5gal tank WITH my male betta soon after that he attack and killed them all!!

It depends on your betta… I always find that each individual fish has their own personality. If you notice he’s slow… not very agressive… he’s likely fine. But if he’s a bossy, lively betta he might cause a hassle.

I’ve never had any luck with keeping neons my self. They’re a delicate little fishie… and my local water perams aren’t suitable for neons.

Oh, by the way… neons are schooling fish, so you would want to keep at least 3 together.

Another idea is getting a few corydora catfish. I personally loved the salt&pepper variety, but the panda corydora is just as cute. I used to raise them, they are hardy and sooo adorable.

All the best… Keep us posted. :-)

I am thinking about putting neons in my 5 gallon tank with my male betta. My friend had one male betta, 2 female bettas, and about 6-8 neon tetras in there and they were fine. I am only getting 3 or 5 so I don’t over crowd the tank.
