How do you tell if avocados are ripe or not?

Every single avocado I have bought was hard when I cut it open, I can’t ever seem to pick out ripe ones.

Answer #1

Squeeze them - gently. The ripe ones will have a tiny bit of “give” where the unripe ones won’t budge at all.

If you can buy them in advance, buy the ones that are clearly not ripe (eg, too hard) then leave them out in a bowl…check every few days, but they should be ripe about 5-7 days after purchase.

Answer #2

You need to give them a light squeeze. Ripe avocados are relatively firm, but will yield to gentle pressure when held in the palm of the hand and squeezed. Judging by color does not work well.

Answer #3

Along with what Jeremy said. Also, pop the stem off the top of the avocado. In the hole it left behind should be bright green and have a pleasant almost floral smell.

Answer #4

eat them

Answer #5

You can feel they are ripe by squeezing them. The ripe ones feel much softer tnan the hard ones. If you happened to buy hard ones, leave them for a few days, they’ll eventually become ripe.

Answer #6

Sorry about that - I think my window was open & I thought the question was still unanswered!

Answer #7

Huh?
