Asked by maddy5908 10 months ago, 12 answers.

I'm an atheist. Just don't believe in god. But is the definition of atheist being against religion, cause I'm not!

I don't believe in God, and that makes me atheist, but I do have a religion...I'm Buddhist.

Not all atheists are without religion wink

No it's not - it means absense of religion. All it means is that you dont believe in any God or Religion.

Uhm, not realy, mr refunctionaldevise.
Christians believe that humanity reigns supreme, not atheists, and that all other spicies of animals are there for us...
And, no, they(atheists) do not think that there is no higher power than the race of man. Seriously dude, where did you get all that from?
The last part was right tho, they do not believe in gods or any kind of dieties.

No. Atheists reject the existence of a god- any god.
AGNOSTICS don't agree with organized religion, but accept that there may or may not be a higher power.
This is a very common misconception, though.

It's o.k. to be against all religions accept the one that
directs you to have a relationship with the one true God.
Who, really can answer you, talk to you(through your spirit--you probably don't know you have a spirit yet because it does not and can not come alive until you ask the holy spirit to come into your life. You see, He is a gentlemen and will not come in unless we ask Him in.
(unlike demonic spirits--which are basically anything
that isn't of God or not what God intended.

The word atheist only means that you don't believe in any gods. It doesn't mean you have no religion, or that you are against religion. Buddhists are an example of religious atheists.

That said, a good percentage of western atheists probably are anti-religious, like myself for example. The reason for this is that a lot of us are formerly religious, and know first hand what a mind-fudge religion really is.

As Toadaly says - atheism only implies a lack of belief in religion or deities. Anti-theism is the active dislike of religion.

ts basically... you believe that humanity reigns supreme, that there is no higher power then the race of man.

No it's not - atheism doesn't pretend to know what reigns supreme, or make any value judgements about that. Individual atheists may choose to, of course.

Atheism itself only means we don't believe in a higher power such as God/desses. We hold no system of supernatural beliefs.

Not speaking for all atheist but I personal think religion is a hindrance to mankind. I do think we could get along and succeed much further without religion.

The a- or an- prefix means not. Using this model atheist would mean not a theist.

From a lot of believers points of view an atheist is someone who denies the existence of God. From their point of view (that God is a given) this makes sense. From the point of view of the atheist denying the existance of the God of the Bible is no different than denying the existance of Zeus or the tooth fairy; they all seem implausible.

I will admit that I'm against religion in general but I respect the personal viewpoint of believers so long as they don't try to force it on me.

Stop bringin Zeus into this! He is our master! And comparing the mighty Lord Zeus with a tooth fairy is ignorant!

Okay, mister refunctionaldevise.

so how can humans believe that THEY reign supreme--that would be blasphemy wouldnt it? - I meant the earth. And in the bible it said that all creatures(besides humans) were createt FOR humans. That basicaly means that they(humans are above other animals. Doesn't that make them supreme reigners in a way?

thats what I was saying when I said that atheists believe humans 'reign supreme' I was just saying that they dont believe that they're being ruled by some other force.
Uhm, okay... your way writing kind of confuses me. Do you look at what you're typing? Cause you have lotsa misspellings there...
Anyway, saying that atheists reigning supreme is still wrong. You should've rephrased that... And, they don't believe that they are being ruled by some other force because they're not. So simple is it. If you want to believe that you are being ruled by a fictional character, please, be my guest.

Athiests dont believe/are very skeptical of a supernatural existence---
I think you read some of my comment wrong? I *did* say that athiests DONT believe in a higher power.
I think YOU read MY comment wrong. Because that's EXACTLY what I said.

I'll quote:

The last part was right tho, they do not believe in gods or any kind of dieties.
I'll explain what I meant, since you seem to have trouble understanding...
The last part in this message was about the last part of your message - athiests dont believe in any god/higher power. Simple, isn't it?

Who's that? Oh, me. Answered by maddie1414 on Jan 21, 2009, 03:32PM

Christians DO NOT believe humanity is the supreme race. We are all sinners. We believe the Father, Son, Holy Spirit are our higher being.
