Thank you Silverwings.
Now I'll tell you a story. I've heard this one before and yes - I like it and think it could be true, but that's not the story I want to tell you. Speaking of God doing cool things, think of this one.
I have been a member here for some time now. I get emails from people answering questions I've answered many times, but haven't felt compelled to come back here to check things out . It has been 6 months since my last login here so that tells you I am not a regular visitor. Today I will be working on the inspiration email I send to my group on yahoo.
Guess what? Today, I felt compelled to visit here, login, and check out the questions and find yours posted 1 hour after you wrote it. Amazing huh?
Hopefully, it will be all right for me to post it to my group. Thank you again for posting this.
Just goes to show ya - Isn't God Good? And if you let Him, He will amaze you every single day by what he does!
Love in Christ,
Shangy!
Yeah, I'm with toadaly on this (and the snopes reference).
If God really is benevolent and all-caring, why didn't he have his two tall men guard that other girl who ended up getting raped? Was she not special enough? Did she forget to ask for protection?
You can call us cynical, but it's a valid question.
semi1900 - Yes, it truly is a valid question, and one that the whole would would like to know. Obviously, if they had the answer to this, things would be happening differently in our world today, right ?
The answer lies in understanding God. Is this a big task ? Yes.
Is this impossible? NO.
How do we go about doing this?
1. God says in his word that we have to be born again.
2. To be born again, is to have our spirit enlightened by Gods spirit.
3. To be led by the spirit of God, takes time and understanding.
4. It does not just happen.
5. The devil, whether we choose to believe in him or not, is the God of this world.
6. I say what I say, because I believe and follow the bible.
7. I cannot or do not, answer for any other religion or faith.
8. God hears and answers prayers.
9. Whether we believe it or not.
10. If God protected everyone, then, this would be heaven, not earth.
11. Gods protection is available to anyone that desires to seek it.
12. It costs you something to follow God.
13. God is not nearly what you think he is.
14. The holy bible is written to show us Gods nature, and character.
15. It is a spirit inspired book, and has to be interputed by the spirit.
16. We are not automatically protected by the spirit of God, we have to seek it.
Based on your train of thought, there are two possibilities:
1. God's power over this world is extremely limited, I.e. he is NOT omnipotent, but rather is only able to intervene in the lives of those who are born again and pray for his protection; the rest of the world is under Satan's power, and Satan, in this world, appears to be far more powerful than God.
2. God is omnipotent, but deliberately chooses to allow Satan free reign over daily life on earth, answering the prayers of only those who are born again. In this case, God would seem to have given up on the majority of his creation, since he clearly would have the power to reveal himself and the truth of his ways to everyeone, but apparently does not. Instead, he reveals himself to a small minority, and based on their personal experiences, they have the faith to follow him. The rest are allowed to follow other religions and philosophies, or struggle daily with their beliefs, as God watches apparently unconcerned.
Neither of these options make following God sound like a desirable option, as either I end up following a weak deity who can't do anything about the suffering around me, or I end up following an exclusive deity who is unconcerned with the eternal destination of his creation.
No thanks.
A recent study showed that prayer had no effect on patients, who prayed or didn't pray.
I don't think this story means anything, everyone always wants to associate things that happened when it was just random based on decision and chance. Maybe the guy decided he didn't want to rape her but then another girl came and he decided OK I'll rape her, I see nothing odd here. And I don't buy, I get a comforting feeling when I think about God Well that's because you assume this being created the heavens. I see nothing but the human imagination. By the way I agree with semi1900.

An example of gods protection
I received this message from another user, and thought it ought to be shared with all.
For the ones that do not believe this to be possible, I ask that you constrain yourself, from being abusive, in your remarks. Others will take this to heart, and it...
might be very beneficial at some point in their life. I have heard other stories like this, and know that God can provide protection when it is requested, in any way he chooses.
Diane, a young Christian university student, was home for the summer. She had gone to visit some friends one evening and the time passed quickly as each shared their various experiences of the past year. She ended up staying longer than she had planned and had to walk home alone. But she wasn't afraid because it was a small town and she lived only a few blocks away. As she walked along under the tall elm trees, Diane asked God to keep her safe from harm and danger. When she reached the alley, which was a short cut to her house, she decided to take it. However, halfway down the alley she noticed a man standing at the end as though he were waiting for her. She became uneasy and began to pray, asking for God's protection. Instantly a comforting feeling of quietness and security wrapped around her, she felt as though someone was walking with her. When she reached the end of the alley, she walked right past the man and arrived home safety. The following day, she read in the paper that a young girl had been raped in the same alley, just twenty minutes after she had been there. Feeling overwhelmed by this tragedy and the fact that it could have been her, she began to weep. Thanking the Lord for her safety and to help this young woman, she decided to go to the police station. She felt she could recognize the man, so she told them her story. The police asked her if she would be willing to look at a lineup to see if she could identify him. She agreed and immediately pointed out the man she had seen in the alley the night before.
When the man was told he had been identified, he immediately broke down and confessed. The officer thanked Diane for her bravery and asked if their was anything they could do for her, she asked if they would ask the man one question. Diane was curious as to why he had not attacked her. When the policeman asked him, he answered, Because she wasn't alone. She had two tall men walking on either side of her.
(I personally believe this story to be true, or could be true, and that the men that were seen were angels.)
Thank you Stand up Guy, for sharing, and hope it was ok to post this.
Blessings...
