Most counselors are not allowed by law to report anything
That couldnt be more false. It is required by LAW for any person in the health inderstry to report any sort of abuse. Do more research before giving such advice.
Now, you can tell her but dont give her the name or the relation.
Just used words like he or she or this person...because she cant make you name him or report it without a name.
But if you give a name, she HAS to report it.

Can i tell my counselor of past abuse without it being reported?
Ok, so when I was a sophomore in college me and my father were both going through a hard time because my uncle died. There were a few times where our arguments escalated and he became aggressive toward me. Now he never hit me hit persay but I do...
remember these times very distinctly. I'm in counceling now for cutting and I think these incidents are important to discuss however I'm afraid of it being reported. It was a bad time for both of us and I know I'm in no danger with him now. And he hasn't done and e thing of the sort for some time now. Is it required by law that my psychiatrist report me if I disclose this information. I am 19 now so I am an adult but I really don't want this reported. Can I tell my counselor w/o him being legally obligated to report it??
