Asked by babbyl 19 days ago, 9 answers.

Question for Atheists here (I'm Atheist too by the way)
What do you think happens after death?
Do you believe in afterlife, reincarnation, etc?

I am an atheist, but more importantly to this question, I'm also a rationalist - which is the 'show me' philosophy. As much as an afterlife sounds nice, it just isn't an idea supported by any known evidence, so I conclude that death is just the permanent end of life. When you die, you just quit existing for the rest of eternity, just like you didn't exist for eternity past.

My friend is Atheist, not myself. I'm Agnostic.
Anyways she believes there is nothing afterwards. Whatever science cannot explain, people are afraid of those unanswered questions. So they say 'have faith; it's God.' Also a lot of people are afraid that there is nothing after life and since we live in a world where there is always something, we do not understand 'nothing'. And what we don't understand is scary.

Well I'm atheist as well, but I believe in a reincarnation of sorts, I don't think you'll come back as a human and have the same soul or anything like that, but I don't think you fully leave the earth when you die, more or less I think you become PART of it.
Kind of like a lingering memory... I guess I've just always liked that idea because to me it means that your never really forgotten and not out in the oblivion, it's like a purpose to your death...

Hope that made sense though! Haha. xD

iunno, my guess is the energy/mem theory.

think about energy (electrons, protons and stuff) just like a memory card, energy stores little bits of information about yourself, memories, facts. and when you die, you decompose back into the ground. where the information/energy goes into the plants and parts of yourself(which is no longer yourself.) which is then taken to animals, then to humans. which creates your personality and intuitions and character traits.
it's kinda a mixture of lion king and reincarnation.

I know it dosn't make much sence, but it dosn't have to. because whatever happens I'll have no control how it happens. or no way to come back and tell you. so you might as well have some fun with it!

From a consciousness point of view I think dead is dead.

Since we continue to be part of a cycle of life there is at least a symbolic reincarnation. We do not come back but part of us does live on in more ways than one.

We don't know. No one does. Is it nothingness? Probably.

I don't feel the question is important. Why think about the after-life? I think it's far more important to focus on making life the best it can be, plenty of time to think about the after-life, ...after life!

Well... I think it will be exactly how it was before we were born. NOTHING.

And I won't care... or think about it... because it will be nothingness.

Really, if you think about it, that is true peace.
Love can't exist without hate, hate is just the absense of love
like darkness is the absense of light...

So... complete nothingness must be like true peace =]
