28% of federal programs are not performing?

Based on our most recent assessments, 28% of Federal programs are Not Performing. This is from the “expectmore.gov” website, which shows you how much of what the federal government is doing that actually works, doesn’t work, and is or isn’t accountable to us, the tax payers. Is the number high, low, or about right, do you think?

And, should there be a graph or chart, so we can easily see as time goes on, if they get better or worse at making our money work for the benefit of our society?

Answer #1

mmm yes rickd, maybe you should tell that to Bush, the REPUBLICAN president who uhm wasnt living up to republican ideals?

Answer #2

phrannie it mostly screws up only when republicans hold the purse strings…

Answer #3

jimahl…not being an extremist, I have no agenda…I’ve never noticed the difference…Dems spend other people’s money, with just same abandon as Repulicans (or more)…if the Government has their hand in something, I can bet a great deal of said money will be wasted…why not…it’s “other people’s money”. Not one single department of Government could ever be called well oiled or smooth…

Answer #4

I would have thought it was higher. But it should be much lower.

Obama as a senator co-sponsored the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006, which requires full disclosure to the public any organizations receiving federal funding. He has also stated that he is wants to have an ability for the public to review all federal spending via the web.

Our government should be completely transparant. Certainly not like the secretive administration we currently have.

Answer #5

I’m surprised the number is so low…:)…It pretty much screws up anything it gets into…and has for 40 some years.

Answer #6

“never noticed the difference”

Phrannie, you haven’t noticed that the only president to balance a budget in the past 28 years was a democrat? Or that 9 of the largest deficits spending years in history have all occured during republican presidencies? The tenth was Clinton’s first year in office, and then it fell dramatcally over the next 7 years, to a record surplus. Clintons time in office also is the only time over the past 28 years that the debt did not grow significantly. In fact it remained almost flat during his entire presidency.

So please spare me the “Dems spend other people’s money, with just same abandon as Repulicans (or more)…” nonsense. Republicans have proven themselves to be unfit for fiscal responsibility.

“Not one single department of Government could ever be called well oiled or smooth…”

And what is your expertise that enables you to make such a claim?

Answer #7

rickd, what is better, taxing and spending, or borrowing and spending?

What good are lower taxes, when deficit spending putts the economy in the crapper?

Answer #8

It is transparent, well, in some ways :) http://www.expectmore.gov/ I’m actually making some excel charts out of it at the moment as I find it fascinating what we’re spending money on, and what seems to be a “miserable failure”.

Answer #9

“we wouldnt have deficit spending if we downsized government.”

You are right. And the only president to do that and offer a balanced budget over the last 28 years was a democrat.

But given the choice of only Tax and Spend, or Borrow and Spend, which would you prefer the government do?
