When you were younger did your family eat dinner together?

when I was younger, I loved sitting down with the family & eating dinner. Weither its watching americas funniest home videos, or talking about how our day went during dinner. I’m just the kind of person who likes that. & were the parents prepare the meal together, & The little kids wanna help so bad, but there just to little to no what the heck there doing. But there were days were my dad wasnt there for dinner & I remember getting so upset. Now that I’m older & am almost at my boyfriends house everyday they way he sees of eating dinner is him sitting infront of the computer eating while I’m stuck in the other room by myself, I know I don;t want it that way when i get older to were I’m eating dinner with my kids, while the father is off sitting in front of the computer. What kind of family is that? What should i do?

Answer #11

my famaily ate dinner as a family when i was little, as i grew up i started takin it upstairs to my room and ate alone. and we dont eat together anymore. if you want to eat together discuss it with your partner and how much it would mean to you if he could just sit at the table instead of the computer when hes eating

Answer #12

Everyday. Although I communicate more with them now than I did when I was younger. Living together and sitting together doesnt automatically mean any sort of togetherness. But I do see what your concern is. You need to talk to him. Explain that you’d like his company while you ate. Start it off with the cooking. If you can make the cooking together into a fun ritual, the eating will come automatically. Explain that for an hour a day you’d like his attention. Dont make it about having kids one day. Make it about wanting to have meals with him now.

Answer #13

Eating together is an important ritual. He can always make time to work on the computer. But it is the time spent sharing a meal with a loved one that is incredibly important to life. Years from now we wont remember the time spent finding a funny viral video but rather the conversations we had with loved ones.
