What could be wrong with my younger brother (read more)?

My younger brother Kevin called me last night with a hell of a scare. He’s been experiencing all day stuttering, the inability to finish his sentences, cloudy thoughts, and I think a possible headache. I wanted to pass it off as the flu, cold, head cold, or something that didn’t worry me until he brought up the fact he wanted me to research tumors. My husband had gotten on the computer then and it’s been worrying me since. Kevin even stuttered during the phone call once which worried me where I have NEVER heard my brother stutter. I told him to go to the hospital the minute he wakes up today due to the fact it was snowing pretty bad in his town. I’m just really worried about him. More information of Kevin is that he has Cone Rod Dystrophy, a disease that has led my brother to lose his eye site gradually since he was 9 years old. Could that also be the reason why he’s suffering what he’s suffering? That’s what I want to believe anyways. Kevin also just turned 20.

Answer #1

I would take him to the doctor immediatley, it could be a variety of things ranging from different severities. You wont know anything for sure until he is at the hospital so until then its just guessing. Take him to the hospital and if you arent anywhere near him, tell him to call an ambulance to his house or to go there himself. Itd be safer for an ambulance though, just so he isnt driving.

Answer #2

ive already told him to go, im scared tho he may be too damn stubborn or may not find his way. we live a good hour and half apart, two since the roads aren’t good. i could be paranoid…but he is one of my baby brothers :(

Answer #3

Do you know anyone who lives near him? If you know their numbers you may be able to call themand have them go over and check on him. And if he doesnt feel any better then I would still drive over there just in case. And try and convice him to go to the hospital, tell him to do it for you so you can stop worrying about him. If he still doesnt go then I would drive down there yourself.

Answer #4

i would if i wasn’t so darn nervous driving in snow. i do know someone, and i am planning on contacting my mother who i know will get down there in a heartbeat since she’s not working. i just wish i had the number to the last foster home he was in that lives right near him.

It sounds to me like there may be a problem with blood flow to certain parts of the brain, including those involved in speech. I cant be certain, Im a scientist, not a doctor. Something isnt right, so he should definately see a doctor, especially as it may be a neural problem. Tumours can produce those sorts of symptoms, but they are not the only cause. It may not be anything overly serious. I myself have had very similar symptoms because I suffer from migraines. Try to worry too much but he should definately see a doctor.

Answer #6

yeah i know :( thats what really scares me. i just got ahold of our mother and i know for a fact she can talk him into going to the hospital pronto

Answer #7

The only thing I know for a fact, is anything posted here with regard to his symptoms is strictly speculation. It could be related, may not be, could be serious, may not be. These are questions only professionals can answer and I suspect only by running tests. Your biggest enemy right now is fear, because it almost always drives people to connect the dots to the worse possible scenario, in specualtion. Try and keep focus on the only thing that is real is what the doctors come up with.
