Yes it will be difficult to speak for the first few days, and yes if you take it out and leave it out for a while it will start to heal and close over. Because the mouth and tongue is lined with mucous, it heals faster than other parts of the body so I wouldn't leave it out for too long.

There are lots of pros and cons for tongue piercings, which is it's taking me so long to get one. lol

The only time you will have difficulty speaking is for like 2 days and thats it! It didn't hurt as much how people told me that it was going to be. Well, at least for me, and also it will heal quicker if you rinse with mouth wash and drink soup for the couple of days and try not to kiss anyone.

After that you get to wear all these kool tongue ring (like glow in the dark) I've like 35 different tongue rings all different colors, shapes, and sizes! I like the silver ones tho, I think it looks hot when I put my shiny lip gloss on lmao

It can affect your speech in the first few days... It didn't affect me, probably because I got a big mouth haha. But there are risks that it can affect it after the healing process. It is common. But some don't. I don't have impaired speech, there is no difference but I am deaf so I do mispronounce words but that is nothing to do with my piercing. My friend has got it and it is so hard to understand her with it now, she was clear before she had it done.
