Why don't many young people read?

I love to read and I get really into good books, but when I try to discuss them with my friends, they are all like 'I don't really read any books or like to read', it seems like all the people my age think that if you read, you must be a nerd or not have friends, they don't look at it as a good experience or fun or fulfilling. I can't even get my husband to read a book!

I've read a few dozen books this year, and am currently reading 'The Fox' by Sherwood Smith.

Last one before that was 'Inda' by the same author...though for a while, I was reading business type books recently, eg, 6 steps to free publicity, etc. I'm 30 though...is 30 still young?

Because it's more fun to waste our time chatting on the Internet, of course.

Lately I do feel like reading fiction is a waste of time. It was fun to do as a kid when we all dreamed to be a famous writer one day and hoped to learn something from every book we read, but then reality sets in.

I'm more into nonfiction now. Currently reading Taxes 2007 for Dummies.

hey!!! I LOVE TO READ!!! I've read at least 30-35 books this year!!! im 14,and I think it's pathetic that teenagers hate reading and know nothing about the world around them.

I love reading and I am seventeen years old I think that it depends on the person and then possible their background. depends really but yeah I have noticed not a lot of people like to read..why depends on the person I guess.

I love to read and im 16 but I have enoticed that none of my friends read very much which is rather depressing as I would love 2 discuss the things I read with them.

I think people who think reading is a waste of time really need to do
something about their lives. ha. but just because
you read doesn't mean you dont have any friends. I have lots of friends.

start a book club, then you will have friends who read. :D

Its the tv and computers fault. All the good books get turned into movies.

I love to read and I also write books for amatuer contests. Yet I'm only 13 years old, many say this is a stunning acomplishment, but I don't believe so. Books amaze me.
