Why do people say they slept like a baby?

I saw a sign about this today and now it has me wondering...
Why do people say they slept like a baby, when babies get up like every 2 hours?

lol, maybe because babies can go to sleep wherever, whenever not matter what's going on... they have so few problems they have a peaceful sleep?

lol, thats true that babys wake up around every 2 hours, but when they do sleep!
its sort of like a relief, perhaps thats what they mean

I wake myself up snoring steph so I never sleep like a baby. More like a tractor.

Haha. ok take this from someone who has a 5 month old baby. Yeah the saying is probably mainly from the relief you get once they are finally asleep!!! lol :P but the other thing is its honestly amazing like with my little guy, he's all grumpy and over tired lets say and you put him in his cot thus making him more upset. you rock the cot like twice and he is out to it like a rock!!!:P its funny and they sleep like a brick sometimes when they are like that. like he slept 12 hours during the day! :P

acedj...you've found out how to make him sleep. the trick is getting him to sleep when you want him to so that you can get to sleep at a normal hour!

people say the slept like a baby because babies don't have problems and if the have problems well the aren't mentioned the spend the day playing and when sleeping the snore and just 4get about everything.
