This is the greatest question I have read on FA.
We have become what we are now because inside every one of us, there are needs that need to be satisfied, instincts that need to be answered, ambitions that need to be fulfilled. Not only do they direct us, but they also inspire us and keep us busy. This is the mechanism of life. Infact, this is the process of life.
If you realize that we collectively have the same needs, instincts and ambitions, you will understand the sequence of human history, and know the relation between what we have been in the past and what we are now. We are the only common thing between all times.
The world now is the result of the satisfaction of our forefathers' needs. Our grandsons, in return, are going to live in a world that we - through our wishes and hopes - will create, or are creating already.
We do not only adapt ourselves to nature, we also try to accomodate nature to us, to what we collectively want.
In this concern, there exists lil' or no difference between what we want to do and what we have to do. Let's take money for example.
We had to have money 'cause barter system was a bit too complicated (or maybe too simple). This is the same as saying we wanted to have money. Now keep in mind that both money and barter system are 2 stages of the development of the method of trade.
When you need something, that means you want it and have to get it at the same time. We needed to become what we are. This is the reason why we have become what we are.
When we know more about human nature, and clearly trace history, we will be able to give a good answer to your question.
Thanks for asking it.
Keep your head up
