The trouble with hating 'nerds' as you call them, is that they usually grow up to have more money, job security, and influence than you do.

I don't - I don't see why someone who hate a certain stereotype. My ship doesn't sink that low and if yours does then maybe you have some considering to do.

because like everyone else sed, the word is pretty stereotypical. I happen 2 call myself a nerd, but im not rilly like they are in movies. just frickn dorky.

They are people just like you are - strong points / weak points - I wouldn't consider myself 'superior' - they could very well be your Boss someday - no worse or no better than you.

Interesting because I'm pretty obviously a nerd. Back when I first got on the Internet (1986) there was almost nobody but nerds here. Now kids are coming onto the Internet that we (yes, us nerds) built and saying they don't like us!

The company I work for has their data center on the 2nd floor. I remember when I just started working here and a woman on the elevator I never met took one look at me and pressed 2. It was so obvious I was a computer guy that she didn't even have to ask what floor,

Doctors are now noticing that the same description of nerd fits Asperger's Syndrome (a mild form of high functioning autism). Perhaps this explains why some people become nerds. Perhaps people with Asperger's gravitate to nerdy fields where the condition which makes them more comfortable with things than people becomes an asset rather than a liability.
