I agree. the right to act according to your own will should be held higher than security. you should never base anything you could say on whether it is secure. I might be interpreting the quote differently, but yeah, I guess it all depends on how you look at it. something you don't understand you could make it mean anything

I agree. The American concept of liberty is a very fine one and worth the price we pay not to sell ourselves to tyranny.
To me the quote means you should never give up personaly freedoms for security that will be short lived. An example would be the way Bush intruded on our privacy by listening to out phone calls for national security. I know it will sound cruel, but I don't care if it prevents another 9/11. It just isn't worth our freedoms.
bush really wasn't the first to do that.
