Where can i find a cheap ticket to new york?

I am looking for a cheap ticket to New York. I would like an open ended return which is turning out to be problematic since most websites offer cheap tickets to New York with a definite return date.

Should I call a travel agent to find a cheap ticket...

to New York or should I keep looking online. I hear that travel agents don't get as good a kick back from airlines anymore and that consumers end up paying more for using a travel agent than buying online. Do you think this is true?

I still find cheaper prices online rather than through a travel agent, but for an open ended ticket it's easier to contact the airline directly. Try searching online for cheap plane tickets to New York and then call the airlines with the cheapest rates. Usually the airlines also offer discounts for buying online.
