Puppies come into heat around 6 or 7 months...it last 3 weeks...one week 'coming in'...one week 'in', and one week 'going out'...best to have your dog spayed at 6 months...They're hard to watch when they are in heat, to keep them from getting pregnant...and shouldn't even BE bred until they are about 2 years old.

What Phrannie said, is all correct. You will have a happy, healthy puppy if you have her spayed at 6 months old before the first heat. Don't ever have to worry about her coming into heat and keep her your little girl for a much longer time. No mess no fuss. It doesn't even seem to bother her much either. Very safe now days.
