Whats your view on smoking?

5. Asked by kimmykandii about 1 year ago, 11 answers.

What are peoples opinions on smoking, and smokers in general?

To the Non Smokers:

I dont want the obvious its bad for you

Why do you not like it other than that? If you were with someone that was a smoker, would that be a turn off for you? Or...

do you like people who smoke?

To the smokers:
What made you want to smoke? Do you enjoy it? Do you want to give up? If so, why?

Just thought I'd get some views [:

I think if a person wants to smoke, that's their choice and I don't stop them from doing so.

However, I have chosen to be smoke-free and I don't think smokers should have the right to smoke in public places.
Non-smokers should not have to suffer the effects of second-hand smoke. Just because a smoker has the right to pollute their own body, does not give them the right to pollute others.

We have full public smoking bans here. You can't smoke in restaurants, bars, any workplace, or where there are other people involved.

Obviously, we can't ban smokers from smoking on the street, but I do get a little miffed when I'm walking behind a smoker and I get a huge puff of smoke in my face.

All I ask, is for a little consideration.

To the smokers:

What made you want to smoke?
I did it first out of curiosity, and then I guess I started smoking socially.

Do you enjoy it?
I guess I do, I dont NOT like it.

Do you want to give up?
I do want to give up, but in a way I dont.

If so, why?
I want to give up because obviously I know its bad for me, but also, its expensive and my friends dont like the fact I smoke.

The smell just turns my stomach - smokers don't realize the smell that comes off of them because they are obviously used to it. I'm not going to dislike someone because they smoke, but I do consider it a huge turn off.

I was SO happy when that law got finalized, I remember when we used to go to restaurants there would be a huge smoking section in where people were eating and it turned my stomach. I love that places are smoke free now, phew!

To ichibanarky:

I completely understand what your saying, second hand smoke is wayyy worse than the smoker actually smoking the ciggarette themselves, I try my best not to smoke around people that I know dont like it, because I remember before I started smoking I hated my parents smoking around me because it made me feel sick.

I hate people who think they have the right to smoke anywhere they want, because I dont think thats fair on non smokers as its obviously bad for your health.

Thanks for your comments people [:

Edit: also yeah, even as a smoker, I think the smoking ban was one of the best laws that has ever been passed, its horrible to smoke in public buildings in my opinion.

it's a turn off because their breath usually stinks, as well as their clothes, hair... bad teeth... I used to smoke but I couldnt stand the smell. I had to air my clothes out and wash my hair a bunch of times. it was annoying... people got so pissed when they found out I did that. my brother said he'd rather me smoke pot than cigs..

To natalieb11:

Well, I understand your point but if your a non smoker I suppose you wouldnt see it through their eyes really, smoking is a choice yes, but it also becomes an addiction, which is really hard to quit, believe me.
There are some smokers who can quit when they want to [which I could, I just dont really want to] and their are some that cant quit no matter how hard they try.

Turn off - breath - permeates their clothes often - hesitant to kiss or get close to.
