praying seems to work for me,but for some,it doesnt.

Joh 18:37 Then Pilate said to him, So you are a king? Jesus answered, You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world--to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.

In any version check out John 3 : 16 - That, is the truth - a person either accepts or rejects Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savoir - simple but true, with 'eternal consequences'.

I wish you the best !!

all religions have a holy text of some sort and when studied, a common strand or idea exists in all of them. like the previous answer said, no one can tell you the truth because what you believe is solely up to you.

Well, it sounds like you're having a hard time making sense of things here. It's good that you are searching for the truth. You make mention of a couple different choices of religion or religious practices that obviously haven't worked to give you peace. The last point you made was of Christianity. Yes, there are many different versions of the bible and they are and were written to supposedly make things easier for the reader. In some cases I would suppose it were true but the bible I use is the New King James version. Why? Because it holds truer to the texts given. The King James is full of thee's and thou's and can be a bit hard to comprehend.
Okay, let's deal with the issue of truth for moment. Take your bible, if you have one, if not that's o.k. Look at John 14:6,Jesus said,I am the way, the TRUTH, and the life. No one comes to the Father but through Me. Also, in 1John5:20, And we know that the Son of God has come and given us understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
Jeremiah 10:10, But the Lord is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth will tremble. And the nations will not be able to abide His indignation. Even the religious elite of Jesus' day knew He was true. Matthew 22 verse 16, And they,(the Pharisees) sent their disciples to Him(Jesus).'Teacher we know that You are True, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do You care about anyone, for You do not regard the person of men.(does not show favoritism). Finally, when Jesus prayed for Himself in the garden before His arrest. John 17:3, And this is eternal life, that they may know the Father, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
There are many other places in the bible that declare God's word to be truth and how the only way to heaven is Jesus Christ, God's one and only Son. Seek Him with all your heart and He will reveal Himself to you. Read the bible yourself for it is truth.
Blessings to you.

Don't be too concerned about which bible to read at this point in your life. There are many translations of the bible but they all basically contain the same information. First you should start attending a church. Go to different churches and find out which type of worship you like the best. This might change later on in your life anyway but you have to start somewhere. Different people prefer different types of worship services but they all worship the same God, that is if they are Christian churches. For example, my brother attends an Episcopal Church and I attend an Assembly of God Church but the services are entirely different in these two churches. It doesn't mean one of them is wrong, it's just a matter of preference. Pick out a church this Sunday and just go. I'm 100% certain the people will make you feel welcome.

I understand your need of a truth.
I do Scientology since long, and it really helps me
a lot, everyday and in every way.
Find a Scientology book and read it.
You might find interesting things in it.
In anyway, you deserve to find your truth, not somebody else's.
What is real, is what is real for you.

Sincerely

even if some people dont like to hear this just hear me out ...huuu...you would have to find the religion that started it all but sadly its not in any book and all who believed in it have died off and left it to be scattered to many different religions the first religion was not christian or catholic or in no relation hindu or rosecrution it was a religion founded by the first intelegent people who could form a religion and society/ way of life only until we find that will you and others really know the truth...its not that i dont believe in all religions its just that there was proof that some religions came befor others and we have to look back at that and try to find the real truth...
GOOD LUCK

Many Bibles are very similar. That is, as long as they are translations rather than paraphrases. I find the New Revised Standard Version, the New Jerusalem, the New American Bible, among others to be good. The major differences are in the footnotes.

A more important question is which Church, since the company you keep will definitely affect your outlook and your interpretation of what the Bible says. I have to agree with fototag, although I must admit that I am very partial to the Catholics.

There is no truth, only what YOU believe to be the truth...

Dear captainassassin, the problem with this assertion is that in undercuts its own meaning. You obviously intend it to be true. But if there is no truth, then neither can it be true, nor can you believe anything to be true, and so all discourse becomes just meaningless noise.

I cannot go there. Thus, I remain firmly committed to the reality of truth. We may not be able to express it fully or well, but truth remains the truth. It is real and we see it reflected in every moment of our lives. Given that, it makes sense to ask if the Bible, or which Bible, is the truth, especially as Jesus himself claimed, I am the way, the truth, and the life.

I as a Christian, would definetly say the Christian Bible. But of course, if you asked someone of a different religion, they would say their bible or holy book. I am telling you right now that the Bible is correct, the truth, and God's word.

There's no 'reality' of truth when your 'truth' cannot be proven, only believed to be true...

How do you know it isn't true? You believe it isn't true therefore you have faith that it isn't true. Besides wouldn't you want to err on the side of caution? Would it not make sense that even if there were no God, and I know there is, that a person believes anyways. We Christians might, and I say that cautiously,be wrong, but what if we are right? What if the bible really is true, then what? What if God really is who He said He is. It may be a crutch to some but who doesn't need something to believe in these days? For me, my Jesus has never and I mean NEVER let me down. I don't believe in coincidence. nor karma, as there have been times that I know that were it not for God's holy hand in my life I wouldn't be here right now. Human hands couldn't have done the things I needed. I guess we'll all see some day whether there is or isn't a God. If i'm wrong then I've lost nothing. But if there is then all is lost. I for one won't take that chance.

Well try something then. Ask God to prove Himself to you. Just be prepared that it won't be what you think. He may surprise you. He doesn't need to prove Himself to anyone, but you never know until you try. You know your heart and so does He. So ask.

If you don't believe without seeing you never will. . . God proves Himself every moment of the day to those that believe, We see his hand in all that is good. As the good book says Faith comes by hearing. . . . Truth gave us proof 2000 years ago Thomas witnessed it and doubted. . Blessed are they that believe without seeing. . . And we are. History has more proof of Jesus Christ than julius cesar reality is He Was and is and will be. . . He knew you while you were in your mothers womb. . . .
So once again TRUTH WAS PROVEN

Nobody said Jesus didn't exist, and you haven't proven anything. You're just spouting the same zealous nonsense as millions of other christians; who just believe what they're told without question, and without considering those you're talking to.

Faith comes by hearing. . . Romans 10:17 So if you hear and you don't have faith Nothing we can show or tell you will make you have it. . . Sorry.
I see statements of Faith and a discussion of 'Bible versions here and then you. . .
If you do not believe that is your right and we are willing to let you live with it, after all nothing we can say or do will change it. Correct? Now You Captain have the right to choose what you believe to be true. . . which is what can be seen. I will respect your right to what you believe. . . NOW STOP DISRESPECTING ME AND WHAT I BELIEVE. And Please don't disrespect anyones statement of Faith be it Christian , Muslim Budist or Pagan.

Look...

If you take what I say as disrespect, I am sorry... truly. I grew up christian, I have a minister for a father. He and I get along fine, we love to go sailing and talk about religion, politics, etc. The REASON we get along is that we discuss religion from neutral territory. His beliefs and mine are discussed from the standpoint that they are BELIEFS... not the TRUTH. You cannot have a civilized conversation with people of different faiths, if your entire standpoint is based on the idea that your beliefs are RIGHT.

You have to carefully structure and organize your thoughts BEFORE you brandish them to people who don't agree with you. You have to see the positives and negatives of others, and understand them; NOT cast them aside like their misled, misinformed, or simply WRONG.

I come from a standpoint that we cannot understand how or why our universe started, or will end. That we ultimately cannot make sense out of it all, because its all waaay over our heads. That our attempts to understand the universe are commendable, yet inevitably futile. That we will know nothing... until we BECOME nothing.

I do not fear death, but I also do not look forward to it. I have a definite idea of what is right and wrong; and am content living and making the best of life AS I LIVE IT.

But in the end, this is only my opinion...
