Why does my dog run in his sleep?

So my dog will be sleeping and then he’ll start to shake and its like hes trying to run but not exactly. I;m just wondering what he is doing. Any ideas?

Answer #1

Does he have any other odd behaviors? Did he do that often before? Is he an older dog? If so, he can have dementia. If not it’s probably just something that he’s dreaming about.

ive seen dogs ‘run’ in their sleep..its weird but funny..does the shaking wake him up or not?

Answer #3

He’s alway does this like everytime hes sleeping. Hes younger almost a year but hes like a full sized dog. and sometimes he’ll do minor twitches

Answer #4

Its not fully running its more or twitching his legs in that motion. No sometimes i have to wake him up myself because he just keeps going.

Answer #5

Answer #6

but seriously..if you can wake him up easily when he’s doing this..its probably just dreaming?..but if you have trouble waking him or if he seems to twitch when he is awake..then it could probably be seizures..but alot of dogs do this in their sleep..its most likely dreaming

Answer #7

He’s just chasing rabbits (or something else doggy-nice) in his dreams. Nothing to worry about I’d say. If he growls in his dreams don’t wake him. You’ll likely get a very unfavorable response.
