suck it up and go. and you stay with them as long as you can. and you distract them with stupid stories and songs and rhyming games or whatever you have to to keep their little hurting selves from realizing what a scary place they are in.
Preferably, you go with them and help them deal with it.
My FIRST trip to the hospital for one of my kids involved a broken arm. He was our only child at the time, so we were both able to be with him the entire time.
Explain to them, why they are there and make it as easy as possible for them. Don't scare them.
Well, I'm not a mom (I'm a great sister though) but we bring stories, an iPod, a comforting stuffed animal and a coloring book to entertain my little brother while waiting for hours to be seen. Snce we go so often, the nurses (who know us by name) bring us older kids graham crackers and water.
