MCR, Disturbed, Slipknot, Maralyn Manson etc.
I mean... Come on! If you see someone asking for good goth bands.. Why do you give these emo, or nu metal bands? You clearly nothing about either subgenres.
But anyway..

There are the older, classic bands:
Siouxsie and the Banshees
The Cure
Sisters of Mercy
Bauhaus etc.
There are the newer, generally heavier bands:
Dimmu Borgir
Within Temptation (personal fav.)
Cradle of Filth etc.

i agree with all of those but if you like the screaming and weird stuff go for dope and matallica!

Yet again, those are not goth bands. Those are mainly rock (and sub-categories thereof).

I wouldnt say that bands like 3 days grace or breaking benjamin are goth. Goth is relatively new so there aren't that many out there but one new one thats realllyyy good it called

they do some sick stuff, they even sing in latin and have the whole dark-opera-electric violin- thing going on. there really into the whole vampire thing too.

urgh, Nightwish is more opera metal than Goth... =r, besides, the lead woman gives me a headache...

btw Cradle of Filth is more black/Pagan metal, they go for the whole Satanist/antichrist image.

I must say I do love HIM buh they aren't goth ... love metal with psedo satanism ( they are actually ahiests) I read somewhere that the damned went through a goth phrase .. meh I dont know havent actaully listened to any of the damned music ... even though my mum named me after a song from then ... These are some proper goth albums you should check out:

The Cure - 'Faith', 'Pornography', 'Disintegration'
The Cult - 'Love'
Bauhaus - 'In The Flat Field', 'The Sky's Gone Out', 'Mask'

Bands such as My Chemical Romance, Evanescence, HIM, The Rasmus...etc would be classed as modern goth because of their image or song lyrics. Their influences would probably be from proper 80s goth bands. Some would argue they're not goth at all, but that's a matter of opinion. MCR has some elements of goth in their image and music. Their music video for 'Helena' consisted of a ballet dancer rising from the dead. And the make-up they used to wear was pretty gothic: black or red eyeshadow and pale faces and black hair.
It's the same for Evanescence, really. Frontwoman Amy Lee's image is very gothic: long black hair and dark eyes and beautiful goth dresses. And some songs are creepy and full of emotional or angry lyrics.

Korn isn't goth either, but I did like the music that JDavis made for the Queen of the Damned.
Switchblade Symphony is another band that you could classify as goth, many haven't heard of em-chek em out.

Music shouldn't be categorized into cliques.
