erin182 gave you four names from Hull, which is an average size place - that should give you the idea that there are a lot! Every city tends to have an older university and a newer one (which used to be a polytechnic), and then a few colleges. Every large town will have at least one college. So if you want to know more specific information you need to let us know what subjects or which areas of England you are interested in. But it's true that the oldest and most famous universities ('Ivy League' equivalents) are Oxford and Cambridge.
