I like it. I like the fashions, the music (the newer 'goth' types like EBM and such, not just gothic rock), and the general sort of ideas about it... But I'm not goth. Mainly because I can't be doing with the elitist trad-goths and their gother-than-thou attitudes. (I know they're not all like that, lol) But I like too many things to stick to just one. Sometimes I dress in a 'gothic' style, but sometimes I wear a pink t-shirt and jeans. Sometimes I listen to goth, sometimes I want to listen to metal, or pop... It just depends.
I guess what I mean is... I like the newer goth subculture, the bigger one that includes all the steampunk, cyber, cabaret, Victorian etc. as well as the 'real' goth (which is a rather silly thing to say anyway, since REAL Goths don't exist anymore), but not the part of it where people stop being themselves and having fun, and start simply trying to be more goth than the next person and take it all way too seriously.
I hate the word goth, I never use that to describ myself, because it is so poser and cleche, I mean I have white face/black lips/ and generaly wear black clothing, but goth is such a horrible word and Just Sarah^^^ is right they don't know what it means, but they dress like that to 'rebel' I mean the goths where a German tribe, it was a litriture style in the romance movement in the 1600's and arcutecture of buildings
Try hards make me sick... they make people like me who loves dark theatrics and extravagant costume, and lots of over the top makeup look like what people call
'goth' when I'm just a passionate writter who has indugled herself in the world of theatre, makeup, costume and darkness, although people have never recognised me as an absent minded try hard and have seen me
for who I am due to my cryptic personality
they usualy understand, but for people who don't know me
I'm just some person trying to dress scary
for attention when they don't understand
I have deep obsessions with
theatrical, non natralistic things
