Sick of people asking how they can become anorexic?

Asked by uniquekiki about 1 year ago, 20 answers.

Am I the only one who is sick of people asking how they can become anorexic? It is not something that you just become.

It can be something that you just become though.

Although those questions get deleted because they are asking how to harm themselves, and that is against the TOU on this site.

Yep - that and the bulimia ones. A lot of people don't realize the seriousness of it, including the consequence of death.

I understand that if you don't eat you can become anorexic. Yet, on the other hand anorexia is a mental disorder, and it is not all about food. Being this doesen't make you anorexic. There are other diagnostic criteria.

Yes, it's a mental disorder, that can start by not eating though. Some girls simply decide one day they are going to be anorexic, after doing for some time, their mind and how they view things will change, turning it into a mental disorder.

okay. let me rephrase that question. Am I the only one who is sick of people wanting to suffer from a mental disorder and screw up their body just to lose a few pounds?

hmm actually I was wondering about this, if it was actually possible to develop anorexia on purpose... because there is a difference between starving yourself and having the disorder...

It is possible to start of just starving yourself, and it turning into a mental disorder.

Whenever you starve yourself and continue these habits daily, your mental state changes and you create a mental disorder.

that's what I was saying. however, I guess if you starve yourself long enough than you may be able to develop the actual disorder. on the other hand, I think that they probably already have the disorder before they start starving themselves. I just hate when people want to become anorexic. it makes those of us who do already suffer from anorexia or bulimia feel like people do not take it seriously.

well ofcourse that is how it starts, but it's an interesting notion, because a disorder is not something that is in your control, so I guess your habits can lead to it, but I wouldnt call it causing it... kinda low how drinking too much can lead to alcoholism but you dont actually cause your own alcoholism... I guess?
(sorry if I seem like I'm being nitpicky here, but the way the brain works is interesting... like uniquekiki said maybe you have to already have some sort of predisposition?)

I'm sure there probley was something there in your brain before hand to cause you to become something like that. Although, I also believe that you could starve yourself, and it could lead to a misdiagnosed eating disorder as well. If that makes since.

Here's my thinking. I had a major drinking problem, I used to put away a 5th of vodka every day. Every single day for over 2 years. Eventually, I lead me to become an alcoholic. Although, I was not a true alcoholic because I quit, and I can drink normally now and not overdo it. Alcoholism - is not being able to control your drinking.

I think I'm rambling though. Hope that made sense.

I think there is a difference between alcohol abuse and alcoholism.

Yes there is a difference, that's what I was saying. I was considered an alcoholic and was diagnosed as an acoholic and had to go to rehab and counseling.

I was saying that I think that a lot of girls who starve themselves, are misdiagnosed with an eating disorder too quickly.
