Travelling to auschwitz

Asked by photogenic about 1 month ago, 1 answer.

I am a photography student travelling to Poland in March next year, I am visiting the Nazi concentration camp of Auschwitz, I have read all the information about photography but still feel sick at the idea of taking photos there, the photos I would take...

would in no way be offensive, not the kind of photos with people smiling in them but photos of the site itself, What can I do?? The last thing I want to do is offend ANYBODY and I have been told to be discreet with a camera there, what can I do, can anybody please help!

Simply treat the site with quiet respect to the deeds that were done there.

Try to come up with a theme for your photos before you go. If you want to show the dark side, then shoot in BW with lots of grain. Or you can theme it with a 'life goes on' slant and shoot the new life, flowers, rabbits, birds, etc., and people. You could shoot the mechanics of the place. (barbed wire, ovens, etc.)

Whatever you do, learn from it.
