It CAN be unhealthy... under certain conditions...
Drinking too much water can lead to a condition called HYPONATREMIA (a.k.a. water intoxication): an electrolyte disturbance (disturbance of the salts in your blood) in which the sodium concentration in the plasma is too low.
''Athletes can suffer from water intoxication. Athletes sweat heavily, losing both water and electrolytes. Water intoxication and hyponatremia result when a dehydrated person drinks too much water without the accompanying electrolytes.''
It CAN be potentially fatal...
''From the cell's point of view, water intoxication produces the same effects as would result from drowning in fresh water. Electrolyte imbalance and tissue swelling can cause an irregular heartbeat, allow fluid to enter the lungs, and may cause fluttering eyelids. Swelling puts pressure on the brain and nerves, which can cause behaviors resembling alcohol intoxication. Swelling of brain tissues can cause seizures, coma and ultimately death unless water intake is restricted and a hypertonic saline (salt) solution is administered. If treatment is given before tissue swelling causes too much cellular damage, then a complete recovery can be expected within a few days.''
As for the kidneys... its not how much you drink, but how fast you drink it...
''The kidneys of a healthy adult can process fifteen liters of water a day! You are unlikely to suffer from water intoxication, even if you drink a lot of water, as long as you drink over time as opposed to intaking an enormous volume at one time. As a general guideline, most adults need about three quarts of fluid each day. Much of that water comes from food, so 8-12 eight ounce glasses a day is a common recommended intake. You may need more water if the weather is very warm or very dry, if you are exercising, or if you are taking certain medications. The bottom line is this: it's possible to drink too much water, but unless you are running a marathon or an infant, water intoxication is a very uncommon condition.''
hell no! none of this is true it cannot kill u! but yes too much water isnt good for you try drinking 4 full classes a day! thats a good amount to drink even if you drink like 8 it is still good for you but if you r drinking more then that you should really cut down but no I cant die from drinking it!
In general you should drink when you are thirsty. Sometimes when we will exercise intensely it is a good idea to prehydrate since it is impossible to absorb water as quick as we loose it when we are really sweating. Other than that don't force yourself to drink more than you want to.
It is possible to kill yourself by drinking too much water. Death comes from flushing out too much of your electrolytes.
Too much of anything is a bad thing.
Drinking too much water too fast CAN kill you. Look it up people. Its not how much. Its how fast. Your kidneys work fast. But if you didnt too much they wont be able to keep up.

Too much water?

Too much water?
I heard drinking too much water is not so good either and that it can kill you.
I drink like at least 4 litres a day, some days I drink tons more, I think a max of 10litres though.
I always drink it to keep full and to have clear skin.
Even though I...
haven't died yet...obviously...my mum says it still has long term bad effects on my body especially my kidneys..
Is this true?
