I dsiagree with plainwhitets extra-curriculars have tons to do with post secondary. It shows if you play a active role in your community and it narrows down and shows a better picture of the person applying. It's also good for students with average grades to get notices and not just the really smart people. But of course they also look at smart people to and they take everything into consideration when you apply so it's not really that biased
Not just in college but I experienced it in the high schools as well. My son is tall and a good volleyball player. They lied to me saying he was doing great in his studies so I would keep him on the team. I later found out he wasn't doing all that good...passing but not that great. Needless to say they had a talking to.
