What's this hard white area around my tongue piercing?

Nurses Rock Asked by iperera over 2 years ago, 7 answers.

I had my tongue pierced about a month and a half ago and after a couple of weeks it developed a raced white area only in the front of the ring that is hard and sensitive, even the inside of the hole feels hard, it looks like a volcano in shape, I don't...

know much about piercing so it looks nasty and slimy to me is not like the rest of the tongue with all the little taste buds, this is white, slimy and smooth, the bottom healed rather quickly just a bubble that went away in a few days, but the upper area is still bothering me and honestly freaking me out by now, is this normal?, will it go away? HELP!!!

The white ring is just dead cells. Nothing to worry about, I got mine done and had the same, its gone now. Just make sure you keep cleaning it throughly and do not smoke (if you do).

Good Luck

It should be fine, but you may want to go back to the place you got it done and have the piercer look at it.

I had that. I went to the lady and she said just keep cleaning it
that did nothing.
so I bought new nail clippers and cut it off.
it doesn't hurt
its just dead cells
sometimes its puss that built up over time and is just suck
so just cut it out.

I'd go to your doctors to check it out just incase, I'm a nurse and the last answer about cutting it off with nail clippers is definately not a good idea as you could cause seriuos damage to your tongue sensations. I also have my tongue pierced but thankfully nothing happened to mine, the way you explain the area around the piercing it sounds like an infection and could quite possibly be dead tissue however I would strongly recommend getting it checked out by your doctor, that way you know what is actually wrong with it.
