Do you think the world would be a better place without religion?

Look at how many fights, wars, murders, terrorist attacks, violence happens in the world today because of religion. The world would be a much better place without it...

The world is really messed up I think.

What do you guys think?

How many Christians do you see at war smacking people with crosses? How many Isslams do you see toting AK's and doing Jihads.

I think your view is skewed.

It is a matter of the Religion and the beliefs. Not Religion in general.

I don't agree with you. Some people need religion to help them cope with life. And not all religious people go into war and are violent. Only some. You can't judge the all of religion just because of a few nutcases.

Even within certain religions, there are only a minority of people who are violent.

And people use religion to justify what they're going to do anyways. Without religion, they'd justify it or sell it some other way. Religion is not the problem, people are.

I have always been more of a spiritual kind of person...
Organized religion, for many, has become a banner to wave when presenting or forcing your agenda.

Well.. 'knowing' that some 'God' will always love me does not reassure me at all... and the law is used to keep people in line.. so yeah I completely agree... they should let go.
I feel no need to persuade other people what I believe... I think that it is a very individual thing... and quite frankly... I don't really care. =]

Although most 'religious' wars are really wars for power, religion helps to justify them and helps to recruit people willing to fight them. Religion is traditionally a tool of the state. Even in the modern world, Presidents of the US appeal endlessly to religion to justify the horrors they inflict...and these justifications are readily swallowed by the masses.

Yeah,the world would be a better place without religion,although I follow one myself. I,on the otherhand,do not force my religion upon others. If they're different,fine. Even though I may disagree with it,I respect it. Christians,and sometimes other people who are different in religion,want everyone to be like them. Like laws,religion sometimes keeps us in line. Otherwise,we get in a big fight over it.

Well, do you honestly think fighting, wars, slander, ignorance, any of that would be gone without religion. It's in our flawed nature to disagree. Religion is a handy outlet/reason to fight unfortunately.

The problem isn't the religion, though, almost every religion is beautiful in that they disagree with all of those nasty things and promote love. The problem is the psycho-nuts in the religions that try to take the judgments into their own hands.
