so I have an english essay due tomorrow !
and im stuck can someone please help me I really need to get this done and get a good mark!

Textual Elements in “The Veldt”

“The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury is a story about a family...

who lives in a futuristic house that does everything for them from tying their shoes to cooking their meals. The house, especially the nursery soon become like a surrogate parent to the children as it takes care of them and entertains them they soon grow emotionally attached to the house replacing their parents. The theme that Ray Bradbury uses in the story the veldt is technology can have a negative effect on a family as it can interfere with ones parenting and relationships. To develop this theme he used different kinds of textual elements such as personification, setting, and symbolism.

Bradbury includes personification in his story “The Veldt” to help convey the theme, this allows the house to be seen more as a character rather then a setting in the story. As the children grow emotionally attached to the house, especially the nursery they start to worry when their father threatens to shut it off as they fear abandonment. They fear abandonment since the house acts as both a mother and a father to the children making it a surrogate parent because it took over the parental responsibilities. It’s not until Mr.McClean speaks to George, the father that he realizes that he and his wife have been replaced by the house:

You’ve let this room and this house replace you and your wife in your children’s affections. This room is their mother and their father, far more important in their lives than their real parents. And now you come along and want to shut it off. No wonder there is hatred here. (16)

I NEED HELP WITH THE NEXT TWO PARAGRAPHS ABOUT HOW SETTING HELPS DEVELOP THE THEME THAT I CHOOSE AND HOW SYMBOLISM IS USED TO HELP ASWELL. FOR SYMBOLISM IM USING THE AFRICAN VELDT AT THE SYMBOL
