the jaguar is black, cheetah is kinda brown with black spots
The name 'cheetah' comes from a Hindi word meaning 'spotted one' or from the Sanskrit word 'chitraka'. An adult has yellow or tan fur with solid black round or oval spots measuring .75 to 1.5 inches (1.9 to 3.8 centimeters) in diameter. The spots cover nearly the entire body; only the white throat and abdomen are unmarked. The tail ends with 4-6 black rings and a bushy, white tuft. The spot pattern plus the ring pattern on the tail enable the identification of specific cheetahs (by humans). The head is small with eyes set high and a black 'tear mark' running from the inner aspect of each eye down to the mouth. The teeth are small to accommodate large nasal passages. An adult cheetah weighs 80-140 pounds (36-64 kilograms), is about 32 inches (81 centimeters) tall at the shoulder and 48-56 inches (121-142 centimeters) long with another 28-32 inches (70-81 centimeters) in tail - males are a little larger than females. Cheetahs are sometimes mistaken for leopards - much heavier animals with rosette shaped spots and no tear marks.
jaguar (jăg`wär), large New World carnivore of the cat cat, name applied broadly to the carnivorous mammals constituting the family Felidae, and specifically to the domestic cat, Felis catus. The great roaring cats, the lion , tiger , and leopard are anatomically very similar to one another and constitute the

Jaguars range from the SW United States to S central Argentina, though there have been no resident breeding females in the United States since 1963. They have deep yellow or tawny coats marked with black rings, or rosettes, and spots. In all individuals at least some of the rings surround spots. This feature distinguishes the jaguar from the Old World leopard leopard, large carnivore of the cat family, Panthera pardus, widely distributed in Africa and Asia. It is commonly yellow, buff, or gray, patterned with black spots and rings. The rings, unlike those of the New World jaguar , never have spots inside them.

An adult male jaguar is up to 7 ft (2.2 m) long, including the 2 1-2-ft (76-cm) tail, stands about 2 1-2 ft (76 cm) high at the shoulder and weighs about 200 lb (90 kg). Although the jaguar is classified with the big cats, which can roar, it does not seem to do so, a characteristic which it shares with the snow and clouded leopards.

wow, I can't outdo that response...but basically, a jaguar is a big muscular black cat and a cheetah is a thin, swift, golden cat with tons of black spots.
Well, yeah I cant out do your first answer either but basically from my own mind and mouth is that a jaguar is a little bigger and heavier than a cheetah. A cheetahs hind quarters are a little higher than its front while the jaguar is regularly proportioned. A cheetahs head is a little smaller and rounder and she has black markings around her nose and eyes (sorta like a football player) while the jaguar doesnt. Sometimes a jaguar is black but most of the time its the same colors as the cheetah golden with black spots, but the cheetahs gold is alittle lighter. The cheetah also has skinnier, longer legs than the jaguar seeing as she uses them to run while the jaguar uses his to climb. Basically the jaguar is a little more heavy set and stockier than the cheetah
jaguars have bigger stripes than cheetahs and they're also bigger than cheetahs
Jaguars have a bigger, more muscular build than the cheetah, which is very thin and wiry, with a body shape that's almost like that of a grey hound. Also, although I guess this is a rather small detail, cheetahs don't have retractable claws, because they need the traction for sprinting.
The jaguar doesn't have the same tan with black spotted pelt as the cheetah, but the leopard does. The jaguar and the leopard have very similar body shapes, though, and so I can understand mixing them up. The difference between a leopard and a cheetah is that the cheetah has solid black spots, whereas the leopard has rose-shaped spotting, and the cheetah has almost tear markings on its face, which the leopard does not.
