Target clothing return issue?

So I bought a shirt from Target but I really don't like it and want to take it back. However I took the tags off. Can I walk over to the clothing section and take the same shirt off the rack and return it with the receipt? Will they know its not the...

shirt I bought or will they think its the same one and give me my money back?

p.s.- I know your not supposssed to do this but, would it work?

no, it wouldn't work because each item has a special code only for that item, and if you take a different one, it wont have the same code

Yeah but it'd grab the same item, they all have the same serial number per clothing item not individual ones, the one item has the same bar code and everything.

well if I were you I would just tell them what happen cause I have returned a shirt like that before .

You don't need to have the tags on a shirt to return it. As long as it is new and doesn't look like you've been wearing it, you should be able to return it without any problems.

I wouldn't try that. Someone who works there could see you returning a shirt off the rack and know you didn't buy it and you could be arrested for shop lifting. So not worth it. If you removed the tags and you still have them, just take the shirt back with the unattached tags and try to return it for store credit. If that doesn't work, find a friend that likes it and trade it for something of theirs.

That's a really bad idea, and it's considered stealing.
I work in retail clothes, and our policy would be to alert the police.

Keep in mind, Target has cameras.
