A balance of socialism and capitalism would probably be the best system. As filetofspam said, what ever works best should be the criteria, not ideology. Some things are better suited for the free market, and some things are better suited for government control.

No! Capitalism is the best and fairest system for free people.

I like laissez faire capitalism. I prefer it over socialism because it seems to be one or two steps farther removed from tyranny... comparatively.

It's not perfect... a greedy populace who do not hold their government to the tenets of laissez faire capitalism can find themselves in the grips of corrupt corporatism... or under the yoke of multinational companies

The rub... corporatism is not very different from fascism... a form of socialism dictated by large corporate entities. The threat of small markets competing with multinationals is the loss of control... what does it change if it has already been forfeited under socialism?

Capitalism is leaving the eggs out of the basket. Socialism is putting all of your eggs in one basket... and hoping the basket never falls into the wrong hands.

I am against any form of economic ideology. I am for what works. In situations where laissez faire capitalism works I'm fine with that. When regulation is needed I'm ok with that and I'm even ok with nationalizing certain sectors when that it the best answer.

I find very few situations where the extreme examples of capitalism or collectivism work. In order to work most things require a combination of cooperative and competitive elements.

I consider myself a pragmatist.

In my opinion social democracy is the best system, but no system is perfect. I think social democracy with good debate and pragmatism would produce good results. Laissez faire capitalism tends to run itself into the ground, and also gives too much power to un-democratic corporations.

I think that social democracy is the best balance between capitalism and socialism.
