Smoking, drinking and sports

I know books and teachers say it. But does smoking pot, drinking acholol, and occasinally smoking cigaretes really affect you when you play sports?
Any personal experianceS?

YES - Smoking causes you to lose your breath VERY easily. && Drinking affects your liver, how can that 'not' have an effect on you playing sports?

yes, I used to be a runner I was on the track team and I was running 5k marithons sometimes, then about my freshman of high school I was hanging out with the 'wrong crowd' and I was smoking pot, drinking and smoking cigarettes every weekend got addicted to cigarettes and now I cant run I mean I can run I just get out of breath easy now, and doing all thoses bad things got me to drop out of school now im on my 3rd year of 9th garde, im forced to get my ged.. soo yes playing sports does affect on smoking and drinking also your life.

It does affect you, even if you weren't playing sports. It makes you very short winded and hard to breathe. WHY put yourself thru that?
