*** The question should be...
Should the Department of Homeland Security be stopped now that we do not have a fear monger in office?

They've been around for ~7 years now, and as far as I know, have not stopped any attempted acts of terrorism. The intelligence to prevent 9/11 existed, but was ignored because no-one believed it could really happen. Well, that's no longer the case.

Homeland security is a superfluous organization that can't figure out how to do anything that is of actual value, so they're implementing policies to harrass and annoy law abiding citizens to hide the fact it's just a giant wasteful organization of no value.

From my research, this was a traffic stop based on a Department of Homeland Security memo...

Hmmm...Could this be the SAME Department of Homeland Security that Bush created ?

Could this be the same Department of Homeland Security that posted the terror alert level daily in an effort to keep everyone worried?

Could this be the same Department of Homeland Security that was given the ability to run rough shod over our constitutional rights?

Could it be that the Bush Administration's agenda to keep America in a state of panic and fear has lead to a state of panic and fear that results in ridiculous traffic stops for don't tread on me bumper stickers?

The question should be...
Should the Department of Homeland Security be stopped now that we do not have a fear monger in office?

No...Since this is a CURRENT memo, from the CURRENT Secretary of Homeland Security, the new improved progessive security, I might add...it's completely irrellevent who initiated a Homeland Security Department.

Actually it’s from Janet Napolitano. Nice try utopia but no you can't blame this one on Bush either. According to Janet the only terrorist threat out there are from right wing extremist. Barak Obama refuses to comment. It’s a smart tactic that worked for Hitler; take their freedom away little by little so that they won’t notice.

They will take away our guns so we lose our right to protect ourselves and the constitution.

They will take our church and synagogue away because they are training grounds for terrorism.

They will take away our free speech.

They will indoctrinate our children to turn them against us.

Once we are without guns we can not protect ourselves. Once we are without church or synagogue we are without community. Once we are without our children we are alone.

The only place I can find anything in a web search about this story is on right wing blog sites. So right there, that should tell you it is suspect. The only news search that came up was World Net Daily. If you want to call that a news organization. Not one legitimate news organization carried this story. But even WND's report said this:
---
A Louisiana driver was stopped and detained for having a Don't Tread on Me bumper sticker on his vehicle and warned by a police officer about the subversive message it sent, according to the driver's relative.

The situation developed in the small town of Ball, La., where a receptionist at the police department told WND SHE KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THE TRAFFIC STOP, during which the suspect was investigated for extremist activities, the relative said.

A man identifying himself as a police officer from Ball called WND later to report that THE TOWN'S RECORDS OF TRAFFIC STOPS DID NOT INCLUDE THIS SITUATION. He suggested it might have involved one of several other agencies that work in the area.
---
Where is the record of this stop? Was there even one, or is this just a driver making up a story? Just because someone says they were stopped, does not mean they were actually stopped. I think this is a completely bogus story being passed around as red meat for the right wingers. And it appears they are eating it right up.

Utopia and toadaly are absolutley right. The DHS was nothing but a fear-mongering propaganda arm of the bush regime. It has done nothing to make us safer, and it should be eliminated.
