Start with asking your probation or parole officer. Sometimes they can be helpful, but it is not often. My suggestion is to try: Walmart, temporary agencies, Minyard, UPS, newspaper delivery, sell products at the flea market, get your barber, cosmotology or nail license, purchase property at tax sales and resale or do mystery shopping. Mystery Shopping is very easy, I have received payment of $9.00 up to $50.00 an hour and was reimbursed for the items that I purchased. As a Mystery Shopper remember to always keep your assignments. You can get more assignments by getting certified for about $10.00. Also try truck driving, it is possible to do local runs and not go out of state because of your probation. Some truck driving companies will sponsor you and pay for your classes. You are even guaranteed a job (in most cases) after completion of your truck driving classes. I have noticed that some truck driving classes will even pay you while training. I really do realize how hard it is to get a job. Keep trying and don't get discouraged. The legal system is not always right. If Jesus was alive he would have been charged with a felony just like you and have difficulties finding a job just like you. Keep your head up.

i feel that the system is so messed because they dont hire people for what they have done in there pass.you get out of jail and try but everyone say no i feel that there should be a law to give people jobs even though they have a pass.its like the jobs want even give you a application if you say do you accept felons they say no.dont push me away to make me make me go out there and do things that got me in this in the first place .people need to be considerate just cause i did somthing wrong do mean i wont work

I share your grief. I graduated from U of H with honors and have a BA in business administration along with 6 years business management experience, but because I have a felony DWI, no one will touch me. However, I've been offered jobs since I registered with the Texas Workforce Commission. They can help you. Sometimes, your local church or NA or AA (depending on your crime) can help. Networking is also good. Your long time friends who trust you can make recommendations to potential employers that have a relationship with them.

I too am a felon with a history of government jobs and banking. I got in trouble one time in my life at 47 years old. Unfortunately for me it happened in the state of Texas and I dont think that the citizens of Texas are aware that Texas passed a legislation in 2005 or 2006 that prohibits most employers from hiring felons. Yes, your legislators did this. And this law really has employers scared to hire or take a chance and even induced some to fire employess already on their payroll. Society thinks that people that keep getting sent back to prison do it because they are criminals and dont want to change. Not true. There are plenty of one time offenders who would never ever make the mistake again, yet the state of Texas doesnt want reformed offenders they want to keep their prisons and prison guards employed. I've just been creative and fortunate that I do have a disability otherwise God knows what would have happened to me. Not only is it near impossible to get hired, it is just as impossible to find a decent place to live. This I think society needs to understand and perhaps rethink the decisions of their legislators.
