It depends on that particular hospitals procedures. Some require you to stay in the "recovery" room for an hour and then will let you leave if you have a friend with you who will drive you home and stay with you for a couple hours. Others may require you to stay in the hospital for several hours after the procedure.

The purpose is to make certain that you don't have any negative affects from the anesthesia that they use.
