Real emo bands?

What are some of those emo bands from the eighties or sumthin I've heard so much about? I've been looking and im yet to find an emo band, just the ones that sterotypers say are emo but their not.

I wanna know what a real emo band sounds like

And to answer your question, look it up. You'll find a huge list of bands that way.

slipknot is in no way an emo band
there in the metal catergory
I dont know if this is 100% correct, as wikipedia isnt all true, but they say that bands such as Rites of Spring, Embrace, One Last Wish, Beefeater, Gray Matter, Fire Party, and later, Moss Icon were some of the first emo bands
