Is hate truly love lacking perfection?

Is hate truely love lacking perfection?

I have been trying to figure out for years what love is. All of the love besides the love of my children has been what seems to be the opposite of the defenition of love. Then I realized that was because I was not ever in love. Now I realize that love is unconditional, selfless, beautiful, etc. How can there be such an extreme between hate and love. I believe hate is insecurity or ignorance. I believe hate is also something we create. For example when you hate someone or something it takes more energy than to love that someone or something. Maybe this was not the type of answer you are looking for, but its what I got.
