Pies & fries, what does that have to do with learning to ski? A friend of mine mentioned pies & fries when talking about teaching kids to ski - what does food have to do with learning how to ski? Is that the shape the skis make or something?

Pies refers to making a wedge with the shape of the skis to help you stop & slow down. To go faster, you put the skis in the shape of fries lying next to each other. I think it's a metaphor that kids grasp quickly.

Some people refer to the wedge shape as the pizza shape with the skis, as well.
