Photoshop (latest version CS3) is hands-down the industry standard. The Healing Brush tool alone (used to remove blemishes, e.g.) is invaluable. And by the looks of your SLR (I'm assuming digital) you should be able to import and edit photos in RAW format (as opposed to JPEG) which gives you complete control over it. I touched up my current photos in Photoshop and it can really make a difference. Some of the advanced techniques are naturally harder to use but I find that the common features are pretty accessible.
