Why are there so many problems in the world?

Why is it that there are so many problems in the world?Is it b/c things don't go the way people want them to..or is it that almost every single person on this planet is self centered and self obsorbed?until they realize the pain in there life isn't the only pain...that by having the ability to ease someone elses pain will some how come back around and ease your own...but how long does it take?how long untill you realize that it feels good to do good..how long does it take that good to come around...does it come around when you need it most?or does it even come around at all?or is the mind replacing reality for faith logic for hope?do you do good b/c some one is telling you too?or do good b/c you realize the look or imagine it will give you if someone knows the good you do?

Dude thats a tough question.
My own person belief is based on that of Bill Hicks. The world is in termoil at this point in time because the human race is evolving. That means that everything that attempts to maintain the status quo is beginning to crumble, in favour of new insitutions. However, they are not going without a fight.

Lets just say that its an interesting time and great entertainment for the neutrals ;P

The world has always been this way. Most people think that it's "everyone for themselves" and don't care about others or what they can do to help eachother out. The world has always been full of hypocrits who will tell people to do one thing and then they turn around and do the opposite. It's in human nature to be violent, selfish, and treat others like crap. True, heroic people in this world are ones who get past all those natural human instincts and try to help others. Unfortunately, there aren't too many people like that. History repeats itself constantly, none of this is new. It's been going on since mankind was first created and it's not going to stop any time soon. People will always hunger for power, there will always be others in need, and there will always be those people who think of only themselves and dwell in the negative things on this world. Just focus on positive thing sand positive people and you'll be helping to stop this endless cycle of war, hate, anger, and violence that comes so naturally to human beings.
