Have them sit with you for a bit while you are talking to someone you know. Show them around different sites that are safe and talk a lot about what you do on the internet and tell them you pay close attention to people you talk to.

Very hard to do considering you yourself can enter a chatroom and be a 17 yr old girl or 44 yr old man.
